The prevalence of rural violence in the North West as well as other rural provinces testifies to the extreme vulnerability of rural South Africans of all races in the absence of proper, visible and coordinated sector policing, and a managed effective reservist plan. Emergency care and services to rural areas in the North West is almost nonexistent. Rural South Africans are left out to fend for themselves without being empowered on any level. The only possible deduction to be made is that the government is neglecting its responsibility towards the safety of its rural citizens and treating rural dwellers like second priority citizens. The Democratic Alliance in the North West province urgently calls on government to reprioritize services to rural citizens. We demand properly coordinated police patrols in rural areas, organized sector policing, self-defense programs for women and the training of community leaders as reservists. We will not stop until this achieved. This discrimination against rural South Africans should stop NOW! South Africans coming from all walks of life should be treated equal and their basic human rights should be adhered to.
