UPDATE:

Thank you for signing the petition!

The budget details have been released: http://www.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/fi... ( pages 130, 133, and 135)

****************************

The Fairfax County School Board is set to vote on the 2018 FCPS budget in May.

It is now the end of March - in town halls throughout the county the school board gave out the Superintendent's List of Potential Reductions for FY 2018 and some of them are shrouded in total mystery: Planning Dates set as "In Process" and $ Impact set as "TBD".

This is unacceptable so close to the vote!

Specifically concerning is the last item on the list "Contract Review" - which states:

"All service contracts will be reviewed. Options for discontinuing or modifying the service will be evaluated prior to initiating future purchases against current and new contracts."

We deserve to know what that spend is and how it can be trimmed before we start considering increasing class sizes and cutting student programs.

We demand to have this information available before the vote, AND THROUGHOUT THE YEAR!

Link to the proposed budget is here: http://www.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/fi...

Thank you!

Jenny Reeves

I have been digging through the budget responses they finally released and the lack of clarity on these contract reviews remains deeply frustrating. My own children feel the impact of these classroom cuts every day so I refuse to let these vague line items stay hidden from public view.

March 27, 2017

Seeing this momentum grow proves I am not the only one frustrated by these vague budget lines. It is humbling to know that so many of you care about how these cuts impact our classrooms.

These are our tax dollars and we have a right to know where this money is going. This should not be a mystery to citizens.

I would like to see transparency regarding all parts of FCPS spending. Especially the contractors and current contracts after the Washington Post story about Garza. Let's get an honest look at where spending is happening through an independent audit. Things need to change so we are not back here again next year.

Increasing class size is not an option. Transparency is key and a happy community is a brighter community. Show us the $$$

The citizens and voters of Fairfax County demand and expect to see full transparency. This includes full transparency on the budget, contract reviews and any aspect of our school district. I am a citizen and I vote and this current situation is unacceptable.

We need to know how our tax dollars are being spent before we ever think of increasing class sizes.
