I. Statement of Purpose
We, the undersigned, demand a comprehensive overhaul of the management, sanitation, and patient care protocols at RMC Anniston. As the primary health system for a five-county area in northeast Alabama, RMC has a non-profit, community-based mission that it is currently failing to meet. The closure of Stringfellow has left our community with limited options, making the current state of RMC an unacceptable monopoly on local healthcare.
II. Documented Grievances
This petition is supported by systemic failures reported by patients, families, and medical professionals:
Hazardous Sanitary Conditions: Patients have documented floors, IV stands, and beds covered in stains, as well as bathrooms that appear uncleaned for over a week. Photographic evidence shows dilapidated furniture and severely stained flooring.
Medical Negligence & Safety Risks: Reports include patients being given medication they are allergic to, patients with critical labs left in waiting rooms, and individuals with compromised immune systems (e.g., leukemia) being placed in rooms with infectious patients.
Physical & Verbal Hostility: Documentation exists of a nurse physically smacking a visitor's hand. Families report a "high school" atmosphere characterized by pervasive staff gossip and "horrible attitudes" while patient needs go unmet.
Neglect of Basic Needs: Patients have reported going three days without a bath and waiting hours for basic necessities like water.
Suppression of Feedback: Community members report that RMC Patient Advocates have attempted to "bully" families into removing social media posts that document poor care.
III. Formal Demands
We respectfully demand the following actions:
Immediate Sanitary Audit: A third-party deep cleaning and infrastructure repair of all patient wards, specifically addressing leaking bathrooms and stained flooring.
Professional Conduct Accountability: Strict enforcement of a zero-tolerance policy for physical or verbal aggression by staff toward patients and visitors.
Transparency in Staffing: An immediate review of staffing cuts that former employees claim have led to a "profit over patient" model.
End to Intimidation: A formal statement from the Board of Directors guaranteeing that no patient or family member will be pressured by "Patient Advocates" to silence their grievances online.
IV. Conclusion
The people of Calhoun County deserve dignity in their most vulnerable moments. RMC's current reputation—rated by some as the "worst in the state"—is a stain on our community. We demand a hospital that treats its patients with the same level of care its mission statement promises.

This hospital was disgusting when I visited and some of the nurses made me feel as if I was a problem they had to deal with. I was hooked up to an iv couldn’t get up on my own and one even said “you seem like u can do this without me” and I very much so couldn’t. She also dropped my Medicine on the nasty floor and gave it back to me. This hospital needs help.
So many locals feel like they have to travel an hour or two or even out of state to receive quality healthcare and that needs to change
Let me in the er in labor refusing to take me to labor and delivery because they said I want far enough along to be in labor and I delivered my son in the er alone then they tried to say he had no hope and wasn’t going to help him. Finally he was moved to Birmingham and I was left in a room all day and never seen anyone not even a doctor. I signed myself out so 5 that afternoon and had him at 1 am
My sister stayed in the ER and RMC over 12 hours before t hey moved her to a floor, she is 78 and no mobility. The ER area she was in was filthy! She had to use a bedside toilet which was not clean and they never emptied it. The whole area had a very foul order.
When this hospital is continually rated as one of the worst hospitals in Alabama, something needs to be done.
My case alone should be enough to solve this problem, They gave my mother the wrong antibiotic medicine on July 4th last year and when I tried to stop it they kicked us out at 4 o'clock in the morning without our consent and pushed my bedridden mother out in a wheelchair naked all the way to my car and we rushed her to Grandview and they said one more dose of that antibiotic she would be dead, the funny thing is RMC denied this but I have everything on video. My mother has been in and out of different hospitals since then and still isn't well. They fried her brain.
Anyone in charge of a needle should have extensive knowledge of how to do so and adequate supervision before being allowed to draw blood. Nurses and anyone who come into contact with patients need training on how to deal and talk to patients professionally and kindly. Food service needs better menus and more inclusive options for vegan/vegetarian, gluten free as well as allergen free as there are zero options available.

My husband waited 18 hours to see a doctor for 5 minutes in the Emergency room. Having lived all around the country, I know that is wrong. Communities smaller than Anniston have far better hospitals.
