Great day! My name is DeLon Slaughter and I would love to serve as your SBA Executive Secretary for the 2022-23 academic year! Throughout my time at Detroit Mercy, I have been very active in both the Wolverine Bar Association, and the Black Law Student Association. Through my involvement with both organizations, I have been able to: serve as a judicial extern for the Honorable Judge David Grand of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan; and assist in BLSA’s fundraising committee by distributing well over eighty dinners for our BLSA Soul Food Dinner Fundraiser, while also planning for our annual Vegas Night event.
Record-keeping is an imperative skill to have as secretary, and I am confident that my past experiences have prepared me for the role of SBA Executive Secretary. Throughout my undergraduate career, I served as the Secretary of Communication for both 812 Ministry and the Phi Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. As the Secretary, my tasks included, but were not limited to: recording the minutes of our (bi)weekly chapter meetings, keeping our members informed via countless weekly e-mail blasts, and ultimately keeping record of each organization’s reports in order to submit to districts, and/or apply for funding.
I also proudly served as an educator for Detroit Public Schools before going to law school. In addition to assuring a safe learning environment for my students, my tasks also included logging their test records, reporting them to our Assistant Vice Principal, Dean of Students, and parents for our quarterly parent teacher conferences. Informing parties on student’s progression was not only vital to the success of students and administrators, but also to my success as their teacher.”
These unmatched opportunities were extremely rewarding for me and continue to fuel my motivation to advocate for those without a voice. Most importantly, they have strengthened my communication and leadership skills. I have finished drafting the formal platform document detailing my proposed changes to the current record keeping protocols. This document is now being reviewed by student representatives to ensure the objectives align with upcoming administrative requirements.

Delon has the experience for sure. He literally did this stuff already for the frat and ministry. Easy vote.
