Hi everyone! I'm Elizabeth Nichols and I'm running for SBA executive secretary for the 2022-23 school year!

Some of you may already be familiar with me as the 1L SBA Secretary. It has been incredibly rewarding this school year serving on the board on behalf of our class, and I'm looking to take it to the next level!

With the help of the 1L board, I have spent this year communicating with the 1L class and working to keep my peers informed on important events and information. I am incredibly eager to take the experience I've had on the 1L board and continue with such a role on the Executive SBA board.

As always, I am extremely passionate about keeping my fellow peers informed and cultivating an open line of communication between us through which students are encouraged to share their thoughts, comments, and questions. Additionally, the role of executive secretary includes more responsibility that I am ready to take on, and I look forward to being in charge of communicating important information, along with representing our school and serving on it’s behalf.

As executive secretary, I would love to continue to use my position to serve as a liaison between students and our elected SBA officers! Everyone in our school exhibits such amazing potential in the legal field, and together with open, personable communication we can work together to push each other to our highest potential! Simply said, we’re better together, and I would be honored to help keep us all connected!

I chose Detroit Mercy because they have a powerful, simple motto: educating the complete lawyer. We aren’t a part of a hostile or close-minded community, we focus on not just learning the law but learning how to act justly in and out of the court room. Our school brings a multitude of unique qualities and backgrounds together, and however different your experiences are from another classmate, it’s our differences that have shaped us and brought us here together!

If elected Secretary, I would take on the honor to use our differences as our strengths, and ensure an open path of communication between our students, faculty, community, and our SBA members. We’ve all got a story to tell, individual and group goals we want to achieve over the next few years and beyond, and every single voice of our class deserves to be heard.

I believe my role as the 1L Secretary, as well as my communication skills and enthusiasm make me an ideal candidate for this role. If you have any questions or just want to chat, feel free to reach me by phone or email. Thank you for your consideration!

March 13, 2022

Reflecting on the conversations I have had with many of you lately, it is clear that transparency remains the most important part of our student government. I am spending these weeks thinking about how to build more accessible channels for your questions once the election concludes.

Seeing this level of engagement reminds me why effective communication is so vital for our student body. I am grateful to see that so many of you share my vision for a more connected and transparent board.

She has been so helpful all year long. Honestly dont know what the SBA would do without her organization skills.

Liz is the only choice. She actually responds to emails and keeps us in the loop when things get busy.

Actually listens to what people care about instead of just pushing her own agenda. Exactly who we need.

Solid candidate. Knows how the board works already which is a huge plus.
