Please show us the same respect Sarasota County has shown it's staff, students, and parents.

Please reconsider the start date for this fall. Many families have already planned and paid for. A notice of the change would help families who have to make vacation requests in January.

i agree that the proposed calendar change has its benefits. However, to implement it for the 2015-2016 school year shows a total disregard for the inconvenience it would cause to many families in Manatee County. I for one am tired of the school district and the school board conducting business as if they are in a bubble. i would appeal to the school board to reconsider their decision .

I am not in favor of starting the school year this early this year or any other. We have family and friends in the north and month between school start dates would make it even more difficult to coordinate vacations with them.

i have a child starting middle school and high school at the same time this upcoming school year. Because we have vacation plans (planned since last year) during the time that new calendar proposes I am concerned they will also miss the crucial orientations that kids can participate in so first day of school at a new school isn't so chaotic. This new schedule will cause a great deal more stress on my children. Please consider making these changes for the 2016-2017 school year. Thank you!

We have already made summer plans that would be adversely effected by this change. This late proposal would not be in favor of students or familes this school year. Although it has benefits, it's late implemtaionion is more of a distraction than a positive influence at this point. Thank you for your considerstion.

Changes to the calendar should be made a year in advance. Once this issue is resolved, the calendar for 2016/2017 needs to be set immediately.

I am a parent of Manatee County students in this calendar although it makes sense should be delayed. Starting next school year is just too soon and plans have already been made for many families. It will be a disruption to those that are there with new ones coming in if they miss the first week or two of school.Thank you for your consideration.

Our family has to plan for time off several months in advance and we have a non-refundable vacation beginning August 9th. Please imement this calendar for the 2016-2017 school year. This would be a more considerate action for our community's families.

people plain their summers out and changing the schedule messes up the plans and costs the parents money who reserved their plans.

Please reconsider these changes to the new start date as well as start time for the high school. You're leaving hundreds of parents helpless due to vacation, medical and work schedules.

Hello. I am a parent of two children who are in the Manatee County School system; one in middle school and the other in elementary. I am very upset with the decision to suddenly change the school calendar for next year. I feel that this should have been done before January. There are many programs, summer camps and families that this decision affects. Think for example the families that earn their vacation time and have to plan far ahead in order to take a vacation from work. Not only do they have to follow protocol by their employers to make advance and secure vacation plans but they plan monetarily as well. They may have already purchased hotel stays, plane fare, reserve tickets for various functions, arranged for sitting services, etc.. How can this be fair to expect everyone to cancel their plans? I am sorry but you should really spare the parents, students and teachers. This has already been a stressful year with the multiple adjustments; including the obnoxious testing. It seems like our district only cares about testing and not the parents, students and teachers (isn't testing what the calendar change is centered around?!). Give us a break. I don't have a problem with the new calendar (well, maybe with Good Friday) but expecting everyone to cancel their plans on a whim is ridiculous and disrespectful. Besides, this doesn't just affect families but our community. Think about all of the organizations; schools, churches, summer programs, community projects, etc.. that this will affect. They have already spent a lot of time and money to plan summer programs. Not only that but they depend on the income from the summer programs. This is a total disrespect to everyone. How can you expect people to respect (or gain respect) for our school district if you keep disrespecting the parent, teachers, students and the community? Your possible action to change the calendar last minute is confirmation that my choice to switch my education major to something more respectable

we will be on vacation. this will not work for us. we planned our summer as soon as the calendar was approved and our choices were slim even then. we took the only week abailable and it is already paid for.

Unless I read the proposed calendar wrong, school start is planned for August 24,. a week later than last year.So your comment about the Aug 16-23 vacations and appointments does not make sense.

Braden River High schools Band camp got cut a week short due to this unexpected last minute change. I'm sure others schools will be affected as well.
