Letlhakaneng is located in the district of Bojanala Platinum in the province of North West (NW), South Africa. The satellite coordinates of Letlhakaneng suburb of Brits are: latitude 25°37'46"S and longitude 27°47'3"E. There are 2269 places (city, towns, hamlets …) within a radius of 100 kilometers / 62 miles from the center of Letlhakaneng, the nearest place in the area is Brits, North West.

Letlhakaneng is equipped with a cellular tower (aka Rietgat tower, Brits, NW) provided by MTN Group Limited, formerly M-Cell, a South African multinational mobile telecommunications company, operating in many African, European and Asian countries.

This MTN tower is not without its problems. Prior to its installation, residents had a choice of using any one of the big cellular network providers, being Vodacom, MTN, Cell C, Telkom. Since the installation of the MTN tower, residents using non-MTN mobile networks started to complain about signal strength of their providers. Residents using MTN mobile network also started to complain about the erratic MTN signal. In some cases, there will be no MTN signal for a week or more. However, adjacent areas about 5km away, do not experience the same. Coverage problems are localised to affect Letlhakaneng only.

The matter of the quality of coverage signal was brought to the attention of MTN through their coverage desk. Here are the reference numbers of those reports:

#3123063, #3190864, #3498008, #3773378, #3901111, #3923303, #396539, #3981796, #4003630, #4015417, #4038474, #4050839, #4050838, #4074246, #4168523, #4196160, #4206657, #4213653, #4244465, #4287568, #4322949, #4329541, #4322949, #4343266, #4371613 and more to come...

One would expect that with all these queries, the MTN network signal will improve. Unfortunately, the opposite happened, MTN signal has degraded to a point where is it hardly up and running for atleast 24 hours. On weekends, it is at its worst.

The CEO of MTN is called upon to attend to the deteriorated MTN coverage in Letlhakaneng. The grannies cannot run their business as you do. The scholars cannot run their business as you do. Parents cannot run their business as you do. Schools cannot run their business as you do. And many other MTN clients cannot run their business in Letlhakaneng as you do.
