For decades, St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet, NY has allowed grieving families to decorate grave sites of their loved ones. Beginning August 15, 2010 all decorations will be removed and banned from the cemetery. Thousands of families find comfort and healing in visiting the cemetery leaving flowers, candles, statues and items for holidays as a means of coping and feeling close to their loved one. We do not see evidence of safety hazards, extra work for groundskeepers, or disrespect of consecrated ground at the grave-sites. We therefore request this soon-to-be enforced ban to be negated. This petition will be presented to the New Pastor of St. Anthony's on August 15, as well as mailed to the Archdiocese of New York. If you support the reversal of this ban, please add your signature below.
