We, the undersigned, strongly protest to the stoppage of transport for the over 19 year old, disabled students of Blaenau Gwent attending local Colleges.
Those have been allocated places to start in September 2011, have recently had the bad news that transport will no longer be provided.
Both the Local Education Authority and Social Services will not fund the much needed transport.
Throughout their school-life, these students have been assessed to require constant support and guidance. Are they now expected to travel to college unsupported on public transport? ?
This does not only affect these students, but ALSO those who are already attending the colleges AND all future school-leavers from Pen-Y-Cwm School and other units in Blaenau Gwent.
We want this issue into the safety of these vulnerable young adults looked into immediately, otherwise they will have no choice but to stay at home come the start of term in September.
The level of engagement regarding this transport issue confirms that our community values these young students. This momentum now provides a necessary foundation as we prepare to hold the local authorities accountable for their decision.

Totally unfair. Public transport isnt an option for many of these students and the council knows it!!

How are these young people supposed to get to college safely?? It makes no sense to cut this service when they need it most.

My niece goes to Pen-Y-Cwm and this is just another way to shut them out of society. Totally heartless.

This is disgusting. My lad needs this transport and he shouldnt be left behind just because he turned 19. Sort it out.
