The Issue:

Georgia Power has cut down far more of the tree line that shielded our neighborhood from I-75/Howell Mill Corridor than originally planned and are refusing to replant mature trees as there hasn't been adequate complaint from our neighborhood. Let's change that.

The Impact:

  • Decreased Security Channing Valley now has direct access to Howell Mill and the crime intensive stretch of that road from I-75 to the Shell station.
  • Increased Noise Pollution The clearing is so robust that is has created a "sound funnel" both down Forrest Trail and the ravine where the power lines run. It has radically increased ambient noise. It has also enabled new noises such as motorcycles, trains, sirens and loud cars that were almost never even heard before and made them an ongoing round-the-clock occurrence.
  • Decrease to home values- The negative effect on aesthetics due to tree loss, the addition of new and increased noise pollution and having direct access to local crime hot spots will result in one thing: decreased home values for everyone if we don't act.

What should you do:

Sign this petition to demand GA Power replant the trees they eliminated. Sign this petition asap as there is still time for trees to be planted this season.

Updates

October 28, 2016

I have submitted a formal request for a meeting with the Georgia Power regional manager to discuss the scope of the tree removal. While I wait for their office to confirm a time I am drafting a letter to the city planning department to address the zoning violations regarding our privacy buffer.

Please please put as many trees up as possible to provide a buffer from Howell Mill to the residential homes on Forrest Trail!

My hope is they do the right thing and replant as many trees as they can to help with the safety and sound issues in our neighborhood without harming the necessary work that they are doing. My understanding is they have a list of trees that accomplish these goals without getting in the way of their power lines. Now we just need GA Power to plant these trees!

Atlanta prides itself on being the city of trees, and has very restrictive policies for tree removal. It seems like the city should abide by that philosophy and replace the trees that were cut unnecessarily.

Georgia power needs to be held accountable for the damage done to our neighborhood.

Over cutting has caused noise pollution and access for all to enter the neighborhood freely, which may further decrease security and the safety of citizens. We have been patient with GA Power and their construction and expect GA Power's promises to be fulfilled.

this is not asking much considering the huge impact ga power has had on our neighborhood over the past several months & will continue to have for several more. Put it back the way you found it so that our privacy and safety may be restored.

Ga Power has clear cut far more than the power line right of way that protected our neighborhood during their rerouting of their power lines. . These trees that they took helped reduce highway noise, provided a visual buffer and helped minimize vagrant activity. We as a neighborhood would like to see Ga. Power help us correct this by replanting a strong natural buffer and a fence that protects us from the highway and the Howell Mill corridor. I would like to also ask that GDOT would add to this cause by adding noise abatement paneling between Northside and past Howell Mill. We need corrective measures as this has increased both the noise and the urban visual of the area. Pitiful that this was not managed by the City and Ga Power had free reign to proceed unbridaled. Please sign this petition..
