This is a petition against the proposed plans for a new dress code for the 6th form at Dr Challoner's High School.

We suggest that the proposed plans be changed, and that the current dress code be properly enforced.

Unfortunately, the school are not changing their ideas for this and have completely disregarded the student voice in making the decision. We have brought to their attention the vast amount of opposition to their plans yet they are adamant that their decision still stands.

The 6th form are disgusted with the lack of consultation of the student body in making a decision that affects each and every one of them.

The school claims that "many girls expressed a wish for a smarter dress" code. As a parent, I request the school to release the precise numbers - how many girls had their opinions canvassed, how were these girls selected, what precisely were they asked, and how did they respond? If they do not release these figures, I think the conclusions will be obvious.

These new clothes will be expensive for people to purchase, and as they are not durable school uniform the clothes will have to be repurchased many times throughout the school year. They are also not going to be comfortable for students and will not give anyone a sense of individuality. It defeats the purpose of the sixth form's freedom. Are these people for real?!?

Isn't it somewhat hypocritical that the staff responsible for the new rules were very verbal in their distaste of the lack of communication with people about the bus plans? Having been told that we all have a voice, it seems very odd to be presented with this change after no forewarning or discussion at all.

The point of sixth formers being able to wear their own clothes is to give them a sense that they're trusted -- a dress code defeats the entire purpose. It would also be pointless considering all the sixth formers I've ever seen dress practically and in no way "inappropriately".

Some fields of work and university training will never require this new standard of attire. Veterinarians for instance. Climbing over a farm gate with an 'Aprentice' style suit? That will be interesting? waste of money!

The new dress code prepares us for the next stage of life: university/college... where there is no dress code! And supposedly the new dress code will improve A Level results by making students concentrate more? Rubbish, the current and previous results speak for themselves.

In order to fund this new policy I will be forced to cancel my donation to the school because that is where the money will have to go.
