On Tuesday March 6th 2012, 170 employees of the Hasbro toy company were laid off in an effort to "return this business to historical levels of profitability and growth". The consumers who love the products of Hasbro are infuriated with the decision to unjustly lay off the staff as they feel that the employees were extremely hard working and beneficial to the company and its growth. Their performance was not justly acknowledged, and instead they were treated with disrespect.
One such former employee is Dave Vonner, who worked in the Marvel division of Hasbro and who was largely responsible for the creation and success of the 3.75 inch Marvel Universe toy line released in 2008/2009. The line received critical acclaim from consumers all around the world, and has sold and continues to sell incredibly well. The line continues to be one of the top selling 3.75 inch action figure lines and Hasbro has garnered extremely large profits as a result of Dave’s hard work, dedication, and innovations. David Vonner has been one of the most influential and revolutionary toy designers from the Marvel Team at Hasbro.
Not only was he responsible for the success of the 3.75 inch Marvel Universe line, Dave has also lent his talents and expertise to the revival and success of the 6 inch Marvel Legends line in 2012. Dave was also one of the original people who helped produce Marvel Legends when the line was being produced by Toybiz in 2001/2002, before Hasbro took over the license in 2008/2009. Marvel Legends was hugely popular with consumers under the Toybiz banner but by the year 2009, when Hasbro took over, the reputation of the line was failing miserably. The line was criticized widely by consumers and fans that were furious that the product suffered a sharp decline in quality, while it increased in price. Although Dave was more so responsible for the Marvel Universe line, his hard work and dedication to the brand as a whole ensured that the Marvel Legends line was once again prominent and largely profitable in the market. Despite Dave almost single handedly saving the line, his efforts were not acknowledged by Hasbro and he was dismissed unjustly. Even in Hasbro’s effort to “gain historic levels of profitability”, Dave Vonners’ designs have brought in millions of dollars in revenue for Hasbro all the while pleasing marvel fans around the world.
If you are a Marvel fan and an action figure collector, we need your support in this effort to help ensure that Dave will continue as a positive contributor with Hasbro. The decision by Hasbro to lay him off was a mistake on Hasbro's part, and as fans, we should do everything we can to get him back on his job with Hasbro. Whilst Hasbro undoubtedly has their personal reasons for dismissing the 170 workers, the community as a collective has determined that as the consumers, we are the ones to deem if Dave and the other workers have been working hard. Our demand is that Dave Vonner be reinstated in his position with Hasbro, and is given the recognition that he deserves for his work—work which has lead to much financial success for Hasbro.
