Mr. Gustavo Valle President and CEO of The Dannon Company, Inc. Dannon Consumer Response Center P.O. Box 90296 Allentown, PA 18109-0296 Mr. Valle, As the top selling brand of yogurt worldwide, Dannon® produces around 6 million cups of yogurt per day. Yet, we have noticed that all Dannon® yogurt containers contain a number 5 in their recycling triangles. The number 5 indicates that they have been made of polypropylene plastic, or non-recyclable plastic. These, unlike the 1 and 2 plastics, are not biodegradable, and thus do not help our current recycling system. Un- degradable plastic can be considered wasted plastic, as it is unrecyclable and unusable after the first use. Considering the reality today, it not only costs companies more to make new plastic at every production, it also greatly costs the environment. This unusable plastic is estimated to take several centuries, even millennia, to decompose. We feel that supporting an eco-friendly environment would prove good to your company's reputation as well your maintaining your company's financial success. Thus, we urge to remodel some or all of your yogurt containers with more environmentally friendly 1 or 2 plastics. This would not only become a beneficial addition to our national recycling process, but also an important building block in support of the wise use of our resources to continue creating an environmentally sound economy. Thank You. Sincerely,
