My daughter, Ema, has been dancing since she could walk. She is currently in grade 6 but is EXTREMELY frustrated that once she gets to high school she won't be able to take Dance as a high school credit in The Arts. While she is hoping to audition and be accepted into the Musical Theatre program at Woodstock Collegiate Institute (WCI) in Woodstock, her absolute passion is dance. She also wants to carry on with Dance past high school and go to a university which has a Dance program. She ultimately wants to become a choreographer and/or dance studio owner/teacher. Currently, in order for her to take Dance as a high school credit, she would need to attend a high school outside of Woodstock (i.e., South S.S. in London, ON). There are very few high schools within our board that offer Dance as a credit. She is extremely worried that she won't be able to get into a university dance program without Dance on her high school credit list. If you love dance, and can help us out on this 3-year journey before she starts grade 9, please sign this petition. Thanks!

P.S. Dance is part of the Ontario Arts curriculum and every high school offers credits in Drama, Music and Visual Arts. Dance is rarely offered.

I`m in high school right now and there is every art form available but dance, and with a society so focus on exercise there should be a class that would be giving students the recommend physical activity a day but also have the added fun students like to enjoy in there classes which dance could provide.

Dance is the life for Elisha too! :) How can you go from getting an A in dance for years to NO dance at all. :( It will be a sad school experience without dance! :(

Let Ema dance! Anyone who knows anything about dancing knows that to be a truly good/great dancer, you have to work extremely hard and often. Add to this choreography, musical knowledge and variety of danve culture, and you have a very rounded educational subject. Let them all dance I say!

I went to WCI as well, but the lroblem here is the school doesn't have the money to pay for the teacher. They focus more on the Tech and MT program. It is a great idea but I personally don't see it happening.
