In order to properly prepare its students for a career in performance, the VCU theatre department needs to offer quality education in all parts of theatre, specifically in voice and dance. By signing this petition, you show you want the opportunity to study musical theatre in greater depth at our school. I am hoping to have many signatures, so that I can demonstrate our group passion for more classes in these fields. One 15 slot class junior/senior year is not enough.

I have spent this week combing through your comments about the lack of vocal coaching and dance training in our current curriculum. It is clear that so many of you feel the same deep frustration I do about being underprepared for the professional world.

Seeing this level of support reminds me exactly why I started this fight for our department. Watching our community demand a better education for our performers proves that the current lack of classes is truly unacceptable.

You've got great talent that deserves more attention in this medium! Esp now that there are 2 shows per year that are musicals. They should be taught how to do it technically so everyone can healthily be able to sing and dance with minimal risk of injury/bad technique.
I believe it's important that we offer a Musical Theatre component into our curriculum. The only thing we have is a class that is occupied with 15 people, but that isn't enough training for us especially since we do a musical every semester. It would be amazing for us to have a full addition to our department!
Help foster and refine the talent we have here so we can be the best we can be. We must be able to learn the skills necessary to be successful with musicals after college.
I am passionate about musical theatre and wish the opportunities for music and dance were more abundant.

I took the musical theatre class. While it is great, we have to cram in WAY too much information for one or two semesters to handle. MORE MUSICAL THEATRE FOR ALL.
