Keep Cuthbert Holmes Dog Friendly
Saanich Parks Department is proposing that dogs in Cuthbert Holmes parkbe leashed throughout the park trails except for two proposed small, public off-leash areas (which will be inconvenient and unsafe). We, the local, responsible dog-owning community are the vast majority of current park users and we will be harmed by this proposal. We are long-term, daily users of the park and we see NO evidence that off-leash dogs are responsible for any undesirable impact to Cuthbert Holmes. Consequently, this proposal will not solve any existing problem. We ask Saanich to focus on the serious problems of massive invasive plant overgrowth, littering and vagrant camping rather than unjustifiably penalizing our user group. IF there are are identifiable, environmentally fragile areas within the park, we ask that these be appropriately marked so that we and our animals can respect these spaces. We support actions to increase park use and strongly oppose this disappointing effort to alienate us from our local, communitywalking space.
