Warwick District Council have issued a public notice of intention to introduce dog control in certain areas of Leamington and Warwick. Whilst we are not objecting to all areas, e.g. Cemetaries, Children's Play Areas etc.or to their demands to clean up after your dog, we are objecting to dogs having to be kept on a lead in Jepherson and Mill Gardens, Newbold Common and Warwick Race Coursefor the following reasons:

1. It is an important part of a dog's daily exercise to run around and play, there is limited space in Leamington and Warwickto do this.

2. The parks are for everyone to use and enjoy.

3. The parks are typically empty until at least 10am daily with the exception of dog owners and their pets.

Therefore, we object that dogs should be kept on leads in these areas unless of course they are of danger to others or disobedient to recall. It is strongly recommended that the Council do not put this order in place or at least allows certain hours on a daily basis that well behaved dogs can be let off their leads in these areas so we can continue to enjoy the parks/public areastoo and not be banished to remote and unsafe fields. Dog owners and dog loverseverywhere, show your support by signing up to this petition otherwise this could become common place in other areas of the UK. The closing date for signing this petition has been extended until the end of April 2011 due to the response Warwick District Council has received on this matter. Therefore, pleasespeakor write to as many people you know and ask them to sign the petition. Many thanks.

Warwick District Council thinks they can just ban our dogs from open spaces without a real fight. Their silence is cowardly but we are not going away until they drop this ridiculous lead mandate.

Where the dogs are using land designated to the other activities then yes being a lead is fine. Play parks should be fenced off for the safety of dogs and children, football pitches etc maybe as no one one wants to play where they could stand on something. Maybe there needs to be sections that leads are required but not every where.

Dogs have needs, just like people! Wouldn't stop people going to certain places and walk free then why would you do it to a dog! This is getting ridiculous ! This is the 2nd petition I've signed in a week ! Stop cutting back on the important thing !

LEAVE THE PARKS ALONE! We have been walking in Jephson for years and never had a problem. Seems like the council have nothing better to do with our money.

I agree with keeping leads on near the play equipment but the rest of the park should be free for dogs to run. Its just common sense really.

So sad to hear this. Hope they listen to us for once.

Ridiculous idea. My dog needs to run or he gets so stressed. Why punish the good owners who pick up after their pets?
