This is a petition to change the existing by-laws that prohibit dogs in Ambleside Parks which currently ban dogs from the parks with the exception of the off lead dog park area which is on native land.
We feel this is an unreasonable restriction of use of our parks to a large percentage of the community, who should be able to enjoy the parks with their dogs. Restricted access to the designated off lead area encourages driving to the park rather than walking. Heavy fines and heavy handed enforcement that has begun in earnest is unprecedented in our community. We believe that dogs should be allowed throughout the park on leash and under control and that the owners should be fully responsible for clean up and disposal of waste. The beach should be out of bounds in the summer months for obvious reasons. This seems to be the case in other Vancouver City Parks i.e. Jericho Beach etc. Given the large number of families that include at least one dog in the household it seems unfair to have Ambleside Parks as undog friendly. Walking dogs is a healthy, social and important recreational activity.
Dog walking is much less expensive to support than many sports activities and can be enjoyed by all age groups. Friends of the dogs unite!
I have been hearing from so many neighbors who are tired of being treated like criminals for simply walking their dogs through our own local parks. I am currently putting together a formal request to meet with the council to demand a change in these unfair enforcement tactics.

Seeing so many of you join this effort confirms that I am not the only one frustrated by these unfair park restrictions. My own dog misses our daily walks through the park and knowing we have this much backing makes me believe we can actually change these rules.

Ridiculous rules. I pay my taxes like everyone else and should be able to walk my dog on the grass as long as I pick up after him.

it makes no sense to force us to drive to the off leash area when we live right next to the park. my dog is small and just needs a nice walk on a leash.

My dog is part of the family and we love our daily walks. Why should we be banned from the park just because we have a pet? Jericho allows it so why cant we
