The Governor,
Bihar, Patna
Sir,
Two persons working as Hindi Assistants in the Bihar Vidhan Parishad Secretariat Mr Musafir Baitha and Mr Arun Kumar alias Arun Narian have been suspended from their job on September 16th, 2011. The Vidhan Parishad secretariat has charged them for commenting on the working of Bihar government as well as the secretariat on the social networking site Facebook. They were not given any show cause notice for the same.
Both Musafir Baitha and Arun Narian are well known Hindi writers and respected intellectual activists. Their comments on Facebook are their personal opinion as writer and well wisher of society and have nothing to do with their official position or work which expose the prevalent corruption in our society. Both Baithaji and Arun Narian are highly respected and exchange their views with like minded people on social networking sites. These networking sites are platform for likeminded people to express themselves
Some month back, Urdu reporter, Sayed Jawed Hasan’s services was also terminated under the pretext that there was no need of an Urdu reporter in the Secretariat.
All the above three are very well known writers in their own field and have done considerable work and nation wide acclaim for their research work.
We feel that these actions are taken at the instruction of Bihar government and violate the basic principle of freedom of expression of an individual enshrined in our constitution as well as various international laws.
We request your intervention on this issue so that justice is done to Shri Musafir Baitha, Shri Arun Kumar and Shri Sayed Jawed Hasan so that their suspension is immediately revoked and they can join their services at the earliest. We sincerely hope that your timely intervention will be able to provide justice to all the three friends and all those whistleblowers who are regularly being targeted by the government as well as various interest groups.
Yours Sincerely,
Reaching this level of visibility has been exhausting yet necessary. The fight for these writers is far from over but seeing this level of interest keeps me moving forward.

Ridiculous that people get fired for their thoughts. They are writers and have a right to speak their minds. Shame on the govt for this.

Justice for the three of them. The secretariat is just trying to hide the truth.

Musafir Baitha is a man of integrity. Punishing him for speaking the truth about corruption is so wrong. Bring them back.

This is totally unfair. Writing on facebook is not a crime. Let them keep their jobs.
