100 Buses a day on Bay No Way!
Petition to The Greater Victoria Transit Commission We the undersigned do not support the creation of a cross-town bus route to run on Bay Street from Victoria West to the Royal Jubilee Hospital. There has been NO dialogue on the impacts of buses in each direction on Bay Street every 15 minutes between 6 am and Midnight proposed to start in April 2009. NO effort has been made to discuss or reduce impacts to homeowners. Several times a day ambulances use this route from the Royal Jubilee Hospital to downtown. Cars and buses have the capacity to block in both directions, as there is no room for central turn lanes. Bay Street is too narrow and properties too close. Parts of Bay Street are built on a bog. The addition of buses would place more stress on the road and properties, potentially causing damage. In places there isn't even room for a sidewalk. The noise, vibration and lack of privacy this frequency of buses would create is unacceptable to property owners. Victoria Regional Transit Commission is urged to reject this ill-conceived proposal or postpone implementation until mitigation measures acceptable to the majority of homeowners on Bay Street can be put in place.
