This is a response/petition to the prohibition of Crocs to G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School. Well, one day, our principal, Mr. Garcia said, it is time to start a "Croc Watch". He stated that if he catches 25 or more students with Crocs on, without the back strap on, during the duration of the 2010-2011 school year, he will personally banish them from G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School. Well obviously he did. He said over the P.A. that he had found the 25th victim and that starting the next day, no one will be able to wear them to school. He simply stated they are not allowed anymore, and was never written on paper as an actual law, rule, or code. However while overlooking the G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School Dress Code Policy found at this link (http://ghbraddock.dadeschools.net/uniforms.pdf) there is nothing that states that we have to WEAR the back strap. As stated in the policy, "SHOES: closed shoes, sneakers, and sandals with a back-strap (follow M-DCPS policy)". Yes, we have to wear a shoe/sandal WITH a back strap, but there is nothing in the article that states it has to be worn. M-DCPS policy is "We are a mandatory uniform school!" which goes back to the G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School Dress Code Policy. Was what we were wearing against the G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School Dress Code Policy? Or was it even dangerous or hazardous to other students, or school/staff personnel around them? We don't think so. Another point we wanted to bring up is, why? Why do students have to wear the back strap? When interviewing certain students in the school, most of them had explained that wearing a back strap is extremely uncomfortable and that you probably have a greater chance of falling or tripping while doing so. So what we wan't and what I think everyone who personally owns Crocs wants is to bring them back to G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School. We believe that as students, and our parents should have a say in this matter and that we should be allowed to bring these shoes/sandals to school without wearing a back strap until otherwise. The same way that teachers and "parents" voted for or against uniforms, they should be allowed to do similar. Therefore, this is the cause of this petition, to try and bring Crocs back to G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School and allow students to wear them without being neglected or getting into trouble for it. And that leaves me with these final questions. Was the cause of this controversy just to try and enforce something that really didn't need to be enforced? Or was it just to make yourself look like you had the power to do so? So we will let the student body, as well as their guardians decide whether Crocs are really a safety hazard and if they should be brought back into effect in G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School.
