Swindon Borough Council Licensing Department paid The Castle pub a visit on Friday 26th of September in response to several neighbours complaints regarding 1) Our Music 2) Voices/noise coming from the beer garden. The person from the Council stated that they themselves had sat in a person house and heard for themselves the 'conversations' that emerged from the garden and the 'word for word' songs from the band. As nobody from The Castle bore witness to this covert mission it stands to remain if in fact it was as loud as they say it was! The outcome of this event has led to the garden use being restricted to 'No beverages of any type to be consumed in the garden after 9.30pm at any given time' we feel that this is an unreasonable request which may lead to our community pub losing a lot of business and ultimately it's closure! This petition is to make the council take note and be aware that we are a local pub with lots of regular customers who enjoy sitting in the garden of an evening, and we should be allowed to use it as we see fit! Of course we will always respect our neighbours as we have always done, and we will do what we can to ensure the noise levels will be managed.

I can't understand the stupidity of people who move next to pubs, and then complain about the noise and the music. :(

It's a disgrace that people can move close to a pub and then can force them out of business. Why are councils across the country even entertaining such complaints. We have lost so much of our public house heritage due to the smoking ban, cheaper superstore alchol, brewery rents. It's hard enough for landlords without adding these extra pressures.

Well how neighbourly of them! They should pop in for a pint and support the local boozer, rather than complain! Very sad!

so true Graham...maybe they are backing the wrong horse here! i feel that the licensing has been judge, juror and executioner, but i am sure we will have our day, we will provide all these comments and signatures both from here and from the pub and present them proudly, i don't think they are aware of the hornets nest they have stirred up! some angry Castle pub users out there, all i can say is we are now taking the fight to them!

we need all the support for this issue! we can relate and understand that it is a neighbourhood pub, but we feel that 9.30pm is too early to force the monitoring of the garden. we also feel that a compromise may be in order and can be achieved

Ridiculous.

I agree Carl. If you choose to move next door to any pub, particularly one that does live music, then you should expect it to get noisy
