Why must every square inch of space be considered a potential provider of fast cash? This is particularly true in a neighborhood that has been practically denuded of significant vegetation. Perhaps the tree could be protected if classified as a "Heritage" or "Landmark" tree.

Unfortunately most "Developers" will only see the four parking spaces this tree is taking up.
Medford is transforming into an overdeveloped commuter city. What will be the cost of "progress"?

That tree is a crucial habitat for many of our local birds and animals as well as many migrating birds. The tree is also helping to keep air pollution down. It provides shade and is beautiful to look at. I pass by it every day. Too many trees have been cut down already in our neighborhood.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL, IRREPLACEABLE TREE. Money-making should not outweigh the value of nature and history. The developer bought this land knowing an historic piece of nature lives there and should have been prepared to honor it.
I agree with Calvin Gallup that an arborist should be hired. I'm not sure I'd rely on the developer's choice unless it's a well-known, reputable tree service that's made aware of citizens' and neighbors' concerns.
And where are the city and other elected officials?

Trees such as these are an asset to a neighborhood. Please include it in your plans, work around it. Do not destroy it.

I grew up three houses away from the house and dreamed of buying it some day, to build a tree house in it. As I grew up and moved away, I still drive down Walnut to see the house and that majestic tree! Heartbroken that anyone would consider cutting that beautiful, living, breathing spectacle of nature..

Please save this tree. We have lost virtually all the old trees in Medford and certainly almost all of the beech trees. We can't replace these trees and they increase the quality of life we have in this community. We appeal to your kindness and creativity to please save this tree! We have lost 8 old trees on only 1/3 of my street in Medford, each over 75 ft tall. Only one has been planted and will never replace the size and towering beauty of those older trees. Please help preserve this beech tree. We will always appreciate it.
