WHAT IS COMMUNITY WAY
Community Way is an innovative system that connects local Businesses, Charitable Organizations, and Individuals in a mutually beneficial three-way partnership.
Local Businesses often lose out on potential income due to their unused capacity, Charitable Organizations lose out on potential income because community members\' budgets are spread too thin, and individuals find themselves unable to support the organizations they value due to lack of funds.
Community Way provides a system that turns these liabilities into assets for Businesses, Charitable Organizations, and Individuals alike.
By issuing Community Credits to Charitable Organizations, Businesses turn their unused capacity into a powerful fundraising tool for the Organizations and a powerful loyalty program for themselves, without any upfront cash costs.
Charitable Organizations can sell Community Credits to Individuals to fund projects, or spend them directly with Businesses using the Community Way system to pay their own expenses.
Businesses can also spend Community Credits with other Businesses using the system, turning unused capacity directly into goods and services.
And by buying Community Credits from Charitable Organizations, Individuals can give at an unprecedented level, knowing those Credits are redeemable at any Business using the Community Way system.
What\'s more, Businesses cover their costs by setting the percentage of CCs they are willing to accept in payment for any purchase. For example, a restaurant accepting 50% CCs would accept cc10 + $10 for a $20 meal.

WHAT AM I SIGNING
Each individual and organization that uses the system increases the strength of Community Way. We want you to be a part of this, and we need your help to get it started!
If you want to see this system actively engaged in your community, or if you are interested in using the Community Way system yourself, please add your name to our Declaration of Support!
We, the undersigned, declare our enthusiastic support for Community Way, a new and community-building approach to creating a prosperous local economy:
The local businesses dragging their feet on this have no excuse for ignoring a system that builds real community wealth. We are currently cornering the hesitant decision makers to force them to explain why they would rather let capacity go to waste. They can keep avoiding us but they cannot shut down the momentum we are building.
August 18, 2008
The momentum behind Community Way is finally forcing local business leaders to pay attention. They can no longer ignore the fact that our community is demanding a system that puts people over profit while they sit on their unused capacity.

Finally some real innovation. Using unused capacity instead of just letting it go to waste is smart business and it helps the community too.

This sounds like a great way to keep money local here in Portland. Too many big corps taking everything, we need to help our neighbors out more.
