That is so cool! I was hoping to, if we can make this happen, make an area dedicated to the history of the building.

I think this would be a great place to host High School Equivalency classes and English language classes for adults, too

This is a great idea! I would hate for this historic building to sit, unused.

We need to preserve this building. My 2g grandfather worked and died there prior to 1900.

You have my vote! That is my thought exactly. There are so many options for grants and real fundraising out there specifically for this, you just have to know where to look and put in the legwork. It's totally worth it.

I'm running for Alderman and my plan was to attempt to acquire this building for this use. There are several grants out there that we can apply for and fund the community center with. We can better our community and not use tax dollars.

I think I may have just responded to you on fb but just in case I didn't. There is not further information as of yet. This is the very start, to show that this IS something the community would like to see happen. There are many options that can be looked into if they do decide to go further with the project. Especially if it becomes a non profit community center.

Who will be funding the upkeep and expenses? Would the city take it over? Would the district be compensated for the building?

That would be a wonderful idea. The building holds a lot of memories. Especially for the class of '75.
