Colin Campbell (1958-2010) was a highly respected member of the Vancouver theatre community. Colin lived and worked in technical theatre and live performance for over 30 years, starting as a high school student in Kamloops. He most recently served as Technical Director and Production Manager at the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company. Before that, he worked as Production Manager and Technical Director at the Gateway Theatre, Technical Director for Theatre Under the Stars, Karen Jamieson Dance Company and the Vancouver East Cultural Centre, and Production Manager for the Vancouver Fringe Festival, and lent his time and talents to many productions around the city.
Colin was an inspiration to those who knew and worked with him. In recognition of his contributions to theatre in British Columbia, a new award is being created in his name to recognize the artisans, craftspeople, technicians of theatre production. The Colin Campbell Award will recognize an individual who creates the scene that designers envision and upon which actors perform. An endowment will be established at the Vancouver Foundation to fund a cash prize as part of the award.

This petition is to show support for the inclusion of the Colin Campbell Award in the annual Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards, honouring those individuals whose achievements are too often overlooked. We feel that this award would complement the Mary Phillips Prize, which is given to an individual who works behind the scenes in theatre.

Therefore, I support the application to include the Colin Campbell Award in the annual Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards ceremony.
