The purpose of this petition is to have the Beausoleil First Nation (BFN) Chief and Council rescind the current $10,000 Per Capita settlement offer to members and renegotiate a more acceptable percentage.

Petition Summary and Background

Coldwater Settlement Agreement As members of BFN, we are entitled to have our voices heard as stated in many public meetings. We have been told on numerous occasions that the membership has final say in major decisions. We are exercising that right through this petition. Membership must be allowed to vote on an amount that would satisfy all age groups.

On December 10th, 2011 Acting Chief Karry Sandy-McKenzie and Council Members announced at a Members General Meeting that the Coldwater Settlement Agreement was in the final stages. In the agreement as well as the meeting the subject of Per Capita Distribution was announced at $10,000 per person. Several members came forward to speak on the amount of distributed funds coming to the members and stated this was inadequate.

We the undersigned are concerned members who urge our leaders to act now and accordingly on this petition. We the people feel that not enough research was done to find a more accurate dispensation total to each member. We therefore ask that Chief and Council accept this petition based on the undersigned signatures below and reconsider a greater Per Capita amount.
