We, the undersigned, are petitioning North Tyneside Council to improve road safety on the A1058 Coast Road between the Silver Link and Billy Mill, North Shields by emulating the high barriers on the A19 and the Battle Hill stretch of the Coast Road to prevent people crossing the dual carriageway; to reduce the speed limit between the Silver Link and Billy Mill and to install traffic lights (including pedestrian crossings) on the Norham Road fly-over and Billy Mill Roundabout.
This is in direct response to the serious accident involving a 17 year old boy being hit by a car on the 6th April 2007.

The scale of the response has generated enough leverage to secure a formal meeting with the North Tyneside Council transport committee later this month. I am currently finalizing a briefing document that outlines the specific barrier and speed limit modifications requested in the petition. Further details on the council's formal response will follow once the meeting concludes.

Used to drive this daily and it is terrifying at night. Drivers take that stretch way to fast and you can hardly see people wanting to cross. Just put the barriers up already.

My kids walk near there all the time and it scares me to death. Something needs to change before another person gets hurt or worse.
