Clifton and the State Board of Education define the transportation policy. Its State mandated that 2.5 and over gets bus transportation. The City Board of Education are not required to provide busing for students who live less than 2.5 even for safety reasons, but boards are permitted at their own discretion and expense to bus students who reside less than 2.5 and can also provide subscription busing and charge parents. I calculated that 47% of our property tax money goes to the school system and safety and a seat on the bus isn't too much to ask for. We are not being unreasonable regarding the distance and all the buses passing our houses to pick up other students all around us and leaving our kids out. We need to ask for a 2 mile limit as the elementary schools have.All that I have heard from the Board of Education that its costly,howeverthereis excess money in the budget (large amt) not identified for anything--probably a buffer. Lets change the Law and lower the mileage to 2 miles. We have the ability to change the Law. Please sign the petition
