This petition is from members of Cicero Council and draws attention to the excessive amount of paperwork required of a teacher and the need for teacher-led fundraising activities in order to organize a field trip. We would like the process streamlined and less burdensome for teachers.
I have compiled the administrative requirements and current fundraising hurdles into a formal briefing for the School Board. The next step is a scheduled sit-down with district leadership to propose a simplified approval process for future outings.

In addition to the technology initiatives that District 99 has implemented, it is important that students have real-life, hands-on experience in the real world, including exposure to learning opportunities outside of the classroom.

Field trips are vital educational tools that provide our students with experiences and background knowledge they might never get otherwise. They can also deepen students' knowledge, understanding, and interest in a topic. This may motivate formerly unmotivated students or set others on a new career path.

Our students need these educational experiences. I don't think teachers should be responsible for funding the trips and busses.

I was told last year by an Admin member that teachers are not allowed to have their own fundraisers. Are we? I'm willing and full of ideas!
