I need to be able to contact my siblings and mom if there’s in emergency, I need to be able to know if I need to pick up my sisters in an emergency because my mom is single parenting, I need to stay in contact with my family. This new policy has made that very hard and is grating on all our mental health’s

Could fill up excess times during end of day or study halls. Alternatively you could have us ask to get our phones back once work is done. Then its our problem if we aren’t truthful

They need to change this! I haven’t been able to listen to the music that helps me focus, despite having accessibility things that allow me to, plus having the phone away is more distracting than having it with you, because there are kids who would probably steal it here!

It’s a safety hazard! How will I call my mom if my best friends get shot?

I feel that the school is hopping on board with what the rest of the world is doing, and not looking at the problem they’re trying to solve, and seeing how our school if affected by that problem.

In my opinion, the phone ban and wifi restrictions do more to make administration have more power over srudents, rather than improve focus. Im not saying that putting your phone away during class DOESNT improve attention, personally I feel alot more focused lately too. However, the wifi restrictions, and bans carried over into passing and study-hauls is intentionally overdoing it. It limits communication, it limits means of unconventional research, and it takes away a student's right to record in self defense. If im going to be really out there, I also feel that this will give justification to teachers being unnecessarily harsh towards students with a bad record of obeying policy. I can easily see a teacher - at the begginning of class - seeing one student who tipically follows rules and keeps on top of their grades using their phone, and the teacher gentally reminding then that it needs to be put away, then turning around to another student, a student who generally is considered disruptive -whether that be from immotional regulation issues or tardiness - who is also using their phone at the beginning of class, and immediately confiscating it and writing them up. In fact I know a couple who would do this.

The school has zero authority to regulate personally owned devices that students legally own unless the device is being used in a manner that violates state or federal laws
