The entire thing is just following a nationwide trend. They’re taking it to the extreme by turning off the guest wifi during school hours, meaning that there will be no communication between ANYONE during school hours, except for the staff. They have a different wifi for people who work for the school, putting the adults over the students and making students feel overall dismissed and disregarded. This is outrageous to take our personal devices, emphasis on PERSONAL devices, during free time or even at the end of the day when we need to make plans. What happens when our students get anxious that they will get punished for even checking their phone for a text from their mother or a reminder for something important? Overall terrible call by the school and everyone is mad

I completely understand the use of phones being taken away to a CERTAIN degree, but the other times like in the hallway or study halls????? I feel NOT so safe anymore with the fact I can’t access my phone in case of a shooting, it’s stupid that this school and many others haven’t even thought of this option, maybe they have but ITS SO STUPID. Especially since they are removing the WiFi at the school and making it impossible for kids who NEED that to text parents. As a senior, I’d like to make sure upcoming grades are content in this school and not feeling scared, it’s unfair. I am NOT going to the counselors because it’s stupid. At least lower the damn protocols for study halls and hallways especially if it’s someone JUST coming into school and they’re late. STUPID!!!

I think when we are in class it's good to have the phones away, but study halls, lunch, and non class times is ridiculous. Yes, it's good to be away from social media at times, but they have taken it to a whole nother Level some parents cant just have their child call them at any time because of their work, and it's also inconvenient.

I’ve felt unsafe at this school ever since this policy started and I don’t think I’m irrational to think that way, with the amount of shooting alone in the us in the last week and the one in Lewiston not long ago has left us all terrified to go to school and the parents feel the same about sending us there, because something could always happen no matter how safe the facility think we are we’re not, we understand the phone policy but think it’s way to much for high schoolers and about the internet taking that away is keeping less and less people from reaching home from there personal devices and vice versa but that’s not it because some people don’t have data or phone service to be able to text or call mom or dad so that WiFi is the only way for it to be possible, this is what makes kids not want to come to school, this is what keeps us scared to leave the house, this school and its policy’s make kids feel UNSAFE and no one seems to understand why. So if you say we’re safe, you’re funny cause WE ARE NOT SAFE. And everyone can see that.

Like what was in the petition, many people dont have data and i know a few who dont so if they do need to contact their parents, they would have to go to the office to contact them, and they would not have any privacy. No to mention like my parents, some parents wont answer the phone if they’re either busy working, or they do no recognize the number. Like someone else said in the comments, they us being able to view Pinterest which is a website used in may art classe to get inspiration of things to make in classes like clay, jewelry, etc. on our school issued devices, and if we can’t use our phones then we will have less ideas and it will be harder some some pople who have a hard time with creative liberty and freedom. I understand not having them in class and during class and i get letting us have our phones in study halls, but part of me feels that if they allow it during our study hall them to only allow kids with either no work, or who are doing well in school, but people who are failing shouldn’t have them unless its a need of a emergency.

The cisco webex blocks are ridiculous. Theyve also blocked pinterest, which is often used as a tool in art classes, and i use personally for art references. People have heightened anxiety daily regarding their phones being confiscated in the halls, meaning theyd be unable to contact their family even outside of class. Furthermore, many peoples buses leave minutes after school is dismissed, leaving them little to no time to pick up their phones.
