For some time now, there has been debate over the installation of fibre optic broadband in the chineham area and residents are becoming increasingly frustrated at the fact that they pay the same for their sub-1MB broadband service as other areas in Basingstoke receiving 8mb. I don't know of any other service whereby you pay full price for 1/8th of a service!!!????
It's my understanding that BT have even gone so far as to install trial boxes in the area but have halted any progress for at least another 12 months.
There are a growing number of small businesses and employees who work from home in the area who are suffering as a result of the poor broadband speeds, including myself and my business.
As a business owner I would even be prepared to pay a premium for the improved service, but there appear to be no sensible and viable options available through Satellite, Cable or Telephone Line. Mobile Broadband seems the only reasonable option currently.
Chineham is one of the more affluent areas in Basingstoke and is situated next to Basingstoke's main Business Park, so why are we still bottom of the list for high speed broadband? If you are a small business owner, working from home or just an individual fed up with poor broadband, please sign this petition.
