The internet situation is really unreasonable for any individual users in Malawi to afford. Mobile companies like TNM and Airtel hold the monopoly on internet access, and even alternative choices always increase their prices.
There is no option with most ISPs for 'flat rate' and so users are forced to pay cost per data at very expensive rates.
The internet is not only for time wasting entertainment, it's vital to all people of the country especially in such an age of technology as this. From education to programming, to communication and creative art the Internet is a utility to the country and at the way it's being unreasonably restricted, it cripples the country in a bad way.

I use the internet every day for academic, entrepreneurship, consultancy, and communication. Higher rates won't help me contribute to the development of the nation.

Lower the prices and improve the service , stop exorbitant charging of services that are otherwise affordable.

Internet costs are insanely high in Malawi. Internet is basic need for growth and development. Knowledge is power but when you put hefty charges on the access to knowledge and information you limit development, exposure, technological innovations, etc. TNM and Airtel make internet accessible to all. Economy of scale.

The main problem is that our government officials have no education in anything relating to internet/communication. They still believe the internet is JUST for email on their 2009 blackberry phones. On top of that MTL, the only company that has rights to use the DEDICATED Fibre-Optics cables is also owned by the Government and European corporations. Their goal is money first, malawian growth last. We need policy change so that MTL or any company shouldn't be able to own any of these Fibre lines, they should belong to the people therefore allowing any company to use them.
