The park next to the Heritage Center is called Charles McDaniel Park. This park is heavily used and often crowded. There is almost 10 acres of land adjacent to Charles McDaniel Park that meets the criteria listed on the DeKalb County Parks Bond and Greenspace Program website. The four properties below have been nominated to the Office of Parks Bond and Greenspace with the hope of the county purchasing the land and converting the properties to productive community use: 1. Kudzu patch next to the park on Heritage. No address for this property. Tax ID: 18-0205-01-099. This is undeveloped property owned by an absentee owner in Rockdale. 2. 2336 Meadowvale. Tax ID: 18-0205-01-057. Currently a vacant home is on this property and is for sale so we need to act fast. 3. 2263 Melinda. Tax ID: 18-0205-01-077. County already owns this lot. 4. Undeveloped and land locked property on back side of park and along the creek: Tax ID: 18-0205-01-037. This is undeveloped property owned by an absentee owner in Alpharetta. 2263 Melinda Dr. is the vacant lot next to the bridge entrance to Echo Ridge Recreation Club. This property could serve as the northeast entrance to a new expanded park that would connect the Meadowcliff and Echo Woods subdivisions with Echo Hills, Shallowford Heights, Sherbrook Forest, and Sunset Acres with a walking bridge over the creek near the intersection of Sundown, Heritage, and Meadowvale. Clearing out the kudzu, privet, and old construction waste would convert this eyesore property into a mix of wetlands and open field that could be enjoyed by the community for generations to come. Therefore, we the undersigned hereby petition our DeKalb County Commissioners to vote for the purchase of the proposed properties with funds from The DeKalb Parks Fund and Greenspace Program.
