Those who sign this petition are in support of changing the Minooka Indians to a different, non-offensive mascot. While the community and surrounding towns were influenced by Native Americans, hence the names of our towns, they should not be made into a mascot. Faculty wearing headdresses and students imitating Native American chants is not the way to honor a culture. The school should not be taking on another culture, as it does not represent it correctly, and is offensive to many. Although traditions can be difficult to change, doing the right thing should come easy: if you agree, please sign!
