Students should have the freedom to exercise their 1st amendment right of free speech/expression. School officials make up their own rules as they go, then interpret those rules in a way that is not in the students' best interest. We need schools that encourage self expression and allow children to grow and flourish.

All children, regardless of gender, are responsible for their behavior. Girls should not be made to feel responsible for the behavior of others, and we definitely should not be sexualizing them or making them self-conscious.

Every woman/girl has faced blame for causing men/ boys to behave badly because of how we dress. This a farce and a lie, and causes long-term damage and internalized misogyny in women. Boys are not distracted by exposed shoulders anymore than colonial men were turned on by exposed ankles. These lines of thinking are outdated and gross.

Girls are not responsible for the thoughts of boys. They should not be singled out to discuss how their clothing could be a distraction. Instead of telling girls how to dress there should be overall assemblies on being respectful to all classmates at all times.

So shorts are allowed but if a sweater covers the shorts that’s not allowed? So please, cover yourself LESS. But shirts that show that your abdomen is covered in skin are not allowed. So cover yourself MORE. This is all nonsense.

Starting in middle school through high school, many many girls (including myself) were harassed by our school over sexist dress code. So awesome you all are speaking up and brining change (looking back I wish I had).
