Change Broad Street School Catchment to Include West Bedford Sub Area 8 (Brookline Park)
The final plan for the catchment of Broad Street School has been released by the Halifax Regional Centre for Education and to our disappointment they have failed to include all of Brookline Park Sub Area 8. The streets that are affected by this decision are Trekker Drive, Glissade & Element Court, Puncheon Way, Duff Court, the extension of Terradore Lane, Garvey Court, and a few other upcoming streets.
This petition is a voice of the families of The Parks of West Bedford who understand the unfortunate consequences this decision will have on the community as a whole. It has been the publics perception that this school was built to service the children of The Parks of West Bedford in its entirety.
It is important to understand:
1) This area specifically, is closest in proximity to the school than many of the other areas that were included. Brookline Park is a complete community – not one that should be divided. Not one where our children play at the same park but do not attend the same school.
2) The consultation process completed by HRCE was arbitrary. Because homes are under construction and are yet to be built, the families that will be living here did not have the opportunity to share their thoughts and feedback. Their opinions were not included in the survey.
3) There has been families who have purchased homes in this area only to have their children attend Broad Street School. This is having a negative impact on their community experience and is certainly causing major concerns for families who are looking to purchase in this community.

The Broad Street School was meant to bring relief to families in Brookline Park - it was to bring convenience and a sense of community. The fact that the school is “down the street” - these families have been misled.
Let’s unite together to raise our concerns and make this change possible. Please sign this petition and share it with your neighbours to let our MLA know the impact this decision has had and will continue to have. We request HRCE to amend the catchment area of Broad Street School to include all of Sub Area 8.

Seeing this momentum grow proves that our neighbors refuse to accept our community being split down the middle. My kids deserve to walk to school with the friends they play with at the park every single afternoon.

West Bedford school is just 1.2 Kms away from us. Since our street was under construction they removed our street from catchment area, because of that my kids are travelling 20 Kms everyday for their present school.
These children will use the same amenities, play in the same neighborhood, be NEIGHBOURS with children they can’t go to school with. Include all of Brookline. Do not politicize this decision.
As a community who was not represented during the feedback session because it was under construction at the time., it’s disappointing that the school will be visible from the community but our children will be bussed elsewhere when our neighbours will be passing our homes to attend the new school. The community will soon have many new residents and voters as construction progresses. Please consider the near future of the community, not just the current state. Thank you.
It is important to do the right thing here, which is to include all of Brookline in the boundary for the new Broad St school. It is simply wrong to divide a community. You have missed the voices of the homes that are under construction. They would literally be able to see the school from their homes and the students would be bused rather than walk. How can this make sense? The voices of these people will eventually be heard thru their votes. Please do the right thing.
It is unfair that the new lanes were left out and were left out only because no one was in there to fight for.

It is very disheartening for one's child to have to travel over 15km when there is a school just within 2km radius of one's house... Kindly add sub area 8 to the west bedford catchment

We recently moved to the west Bedford neighborhood which is just 1 km away from the school and I have 2 daughters who will be traveling around 13 kms for their assigned schools for this catchment area
