I am writing to ask the university to reconsider the decision to switch from open book to closed book exams, especially for final-year students. Closed book exams are much harder because students have to remember a lot of information, which is very stressful, especially for those used to open book exams. Open book exams allow students to focus on understanding and applying knowledge, which is more like real-life situations. Please consider keeping open book exams or offering more support to help students adjust.

Closed-book exams should be applied to new students in Level 4, not to those who are already continuing Level 5&6. Most of the students are mentally breakdown because of this sudden harsh decision.

The sudden shift from open-book to closed-book exams is both unfair and overwhelming. For the past five years, the open-book format has encouraged deep understanding and critical thinking, not rote memorization. This change forces students to focus on memorization instead of application, which undermines the true purpose of learning. It’s particularly stressful as many of us have developed study methods around the open-book system. Returning to open-book exams would not only reduce unnecessary stress but also align more closely with real-world practices where professionals have access to resources. We need open-book exams to foster genuine learning and fair assessment

The last time I memorised anything was in 2021, and it wasn't even as intense as the ones that I have to manage in less than 2 months from now. The amount of autoimmune outbreaks I had to endure for this is unspeakable :(

I would like to suggest that the shift to closed-book exams should apply only to students registering in 2025 and beyond, rather than those who enrolled under the previous open-book system. This would ensure fairness and consistency in assessment for current students who prepared based on the earlier exam format.

It is really unfair to suddenly move back to open book whilst we chose to start with UOL as it was open book and would into my hectic work and one parent schedule. I am a mature student of 43 years of age and just wanting to advance in life for my kids. I am left with 2 papers and now I am completely stressed cause i have invested so much time and money into this degree

Pls put it back to open book. Closed book is too stressful

Unfair because they emphasize memorization over real-world application. Open-book exams are more fair because they reflect real-life problem-solving, where professionals can refer to resources. They test understanding, analysis, and the ability to apply knowledge rather than just recall facts, making them a more accurate measure of a student’s true capabilities.
