Hi, some of you may know that I've been working to change the policy on facial piercings in the Lawton Public Schools district. Facial piercings are considered a distraction, implying that it can hinder our learning. This rule has not been well received by the student body and even some administrators. When students are forced to remove their jewlery at school in an unclean enviroment it makes many of us prone to infection. The plastic jewlery that is allowed also harbors bacteria that can make someone with a piercing prone to infection. Administrators spend their valuable time chasing students for a small piece of jewlery rather than being able to focus on more important issues. If this rule is lifted it will take a small amount of stress off students and administrators alike. I've been through my home school asking for signatures but soon learned that there were many more people that would like to sign. It would be physically impossible to reach each and every student so this is my best bet. I'm fully aware that this isn't a huge change, but we've got to start somewhere. Please take the time out of your day to sign and share this, every signature matters.

I have spent the last few days talking to administrators and the pushback is exactly what you would expect. It is exhausting to keep explaining that a small piece of metal is not a threat to anyone. I am tired but I am not stopping.

Great job on this petition. Let's focus on education, not on the appearance of other students, and or faculty. School is for learning and growing together, not to be held by restraints due to clothing, piercings, etc. Let the kids be kids, gives them their freedom of expression. Keep constitutional rights in the school system; your own personal rights should not change when you step foot in that door.

I had to take my piercing out and by the time I got home and got clear piercings my nose piercing had already grown over! It wasnt even an all that noticable stud, it was really small and wasnt distracting in the least bit.

Facial piercings are literally hurting no one they're a form of self expression. We're suppose to be ourselves but all you guys want is for us to follow your rules on how we need to dress and what holes we can and can't put into our bodies. If our parents allowed us to put these holes in our bodies there's not reason we can't go to school with them.

I think we should be able to wear piercings then we don't have to worry about taking them out every time we see a principle and it would keep kids out the office when they get a smart mouth for having to take their piercings out

they're trying to teach employability by telling us that we need to take out our piercings . if they want to teach us employability they're other ways.

Worry about your athletic apes that get free rides through their classes while the rest of your students struggle with actual work. Worry about the kids that don't eat lunch because they can't afford it. Worry about the student who gets picked on everyday through the hallways and goes home to an abusive family. Stop putting energy and time into kids with tattoos, piercings, bra straps, shorts. It shows where your administrations priorities really are

I believe Lawton public schools should allow facial piercings.
