if you know me David Abraham, I do martial arts and work with kids daily. I'm far from your  description of a criminal. I decided to start this online petition due to citation the city of Gaithersburg wrote me. I used some chalk spray with a stencil to create a design on the sidewalk so the city of Gaithersburg has citied me a $500 fine or 60 days in jail. I have my court date set for june 30th and I feel the city attempt to charge me with a criminal act to be on my record for defacing public property and vandalism is a bit over board and they need to update their codes.

I Believe this is absurd due to the following facts. - kids use chalk sticks to write on the street - it is washable and if the city finds me guilty they are basically saying that any person child or adult can be charged criminally for using chalk on the sidewalk. they are saying it is graffiti and vandalism.

Please add your name and comments on the petition so that i can show the judge that if chalk is not allowed they must be clear of the city code and not find me guilty becuase im not a child yet the use of chalk on sidewalks is a common everyday activity.

to add to the matter, When i was spraying the chalk stencil, 3 different cops passed by at different time when i was doing it and no one said a thing. It was I that went to the police station when i was told they came to my home trying to find me for what i had done. I provided them the spray chalk can to show them what it was but i still got the criminal citation.

Please repost the link to this citation and help me get as many people to show this needs to be dismissed and the city needs to update the code. (this exact same code with slight variation also appears in state and county books)

The amount of people who have reached out to tell me their own stories about being wrongly targeted by city code is overwhelming. It is clear that this is about more than just a bit of chalk on the pavement because so many of you see how ridiculous these threats against me truly are.

Seeing this level of support reminds me that common sense still exists even when the city tries to label my art as a crime. I am feeling much stronger knowing so many of you see how ridiculous this fine actually is.

The city is just trying to squeeze money out of people. It is just chalk stencils not spray paint. Total overreach.

Unbelievable. Gaithersburg has lost their minds.

This is completely ridiculous! It is chalk for goodness sake. It washes off with the first rain. They have better things to do with our tax money.

My kids draw with chalk every single day on the sidewalk. Does this mean they are criminals now? Absolutely insane.

Ridiculous. If the cops saw him doing it and didn't stop him then that says it all. Leave the guy alone.
