We have reached one hundred signatures which provides a clear mandate for my upcoming meeting with the event committee. I am drafting a formal proposal to ensure the Erie Reader editorial team receives a seat at the table for the booking process.

I was on the entertainment committee for the Filippi years of CE and we had a great mixture of musical entertainment. Missed Wilco by a phone call (damn!) - I would dearly love to see a return to the class and artistry that CE was intended to showcase.
I would love to see some new, relevant music playing at Celebrate Erie. I haven't gone the last few years because there's no music there that's really interesting. I think Erie could definitely benefit from bringing in diverse acts other than Dee Snider or artists who were popular thirty years ago.
"In the $30,000 to $50,000 range, we could’ve gotten (this year), Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Ben Folds, Blues Traveler, Bruce Hornsby, Cold War Kids, Fitz and the Tantrums, Flogging Molly, Jeff Tweedy, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, OK Go, Tegan and Sara, The Decemberists, Sugar Ray, or Spoon." Yep, time to let someone else plan this!
Put some local acts on the main stage. How about some genre diversity? It's only ever cover bands, and The Romantic Era. (Seriously, its Celebrate Erie.. Lets celebrate the music WRITTEN by Erie, not just cover band after cover band. I get it.. The 80s were great.. but its 2015. They're dead. They're never coming back.)
My 25 year old son told me that he and half of his friends from Pittsburgh would come up to Erie to see every band that the Reader listed! Let's give them a chance!
Give up the keys
It's time to give CE an overall. All of the bands mentioned in the article have the potential to draw significantly larger (and younger) crowds to CE. Erie needs to start a change to draw the attention of younger generations. There are events like Roar on the Shore that include older bands and fill the niche for the Erie preference. Hosting newer rock bands in late August should be a no brainer. Why pay washed up, old bands $85k when you can get rising talent for a fraction of the cost?

It's time the people of Erie stand up say enough is enough. Stop insulting us by bringing bottom tier entertainment. There's no reason why Erie shouldn't be on the music scene map. With top tier acts, we could easily draw crowds from the surrounding cities (Cleveland, Buffalo, Pittsburgh), thus bringing additional revenue to the city.
