It's time to give CE an overall. All of the bands mentioned in the article have the potential to draw significantly larger (and younger) crowds to CE. Erie needs to start a change to draw the attention of younger generations. There are events like Roar on the Shore that include older bands and fill the niche for the Erie preference. Hosting newer rock bands in late August should be a no brainer. Why pay washed up, old bands $85k when you can get rising talent for a fraction of the cost?

It is time Erie began following the example of our thriving and changing neighbors, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and Cleveland. It's time for Erie to work on becoming a modern city and not pandering to the past.

The music is not the only attraction of CE that is at the lowest common denominator. Better quality musical groups of whatever era, however, would also attract good vendors etc.

I would love to see some new, relevant music playing at Celebrate Erie. I haven't gone the last few years because there's no music there that's really interesting. I think Erie could definitely benefit from bringing in diverse acts other than Dee Snider or artists who were popular thirty years ago.

We call Erie the "Musical Desert." There is so much potential here in Erie and it seems that good ideas keep getting buried...we have the only protected harbor in the whole Great Lakes System, and it needs to be developed. Bringing in great music, even if we have to pay for it, would be a great help.

I think some new blood and new ideas are well overdue here. We need to start thinking progressively here. Look around. We are being left behind. "We Love Erie Days" were meant to be an Erie event and local talents should be showcased. Should we bring in a national act too? Yes. How about one that would appeal to the younger crowds so maybe they might stay and work and invest here. We have done the status quo for too long. Former Mayor Rick Filippi was headed in the right direction. Get him involved too.

It seems as though the people who created this petition and wrote the lovely article in that rag of a local paper have no idea how booking live music works. I'd love to see any of the acts named in the article actually get booked in the price range the city has in the budget. That list of prices doesn't include travel expenses, riders, off-tour stops, etc...NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT IT IS A FREE SHOW IN ERIE PA! Morons.

Music at a 'celebration' of Erie should be a 'celebration of Erie art'. There are an amazing amount of musicians who write their own music that can carry this on for much less money than even the bands suggested by Erie Reader. These artists/musicians have eaten food made in Erie, drank the water from Erie, swam at Presque Isle, enjoyed a day at Waldameer, been to Conneaut Lake Park, caught a sports event at EIA/Uht...these people were BRED in this town, so they should have the opportunity EVEN JUST ONE TIME to show the people of this town what we produce. If it flops, at least we f-ing TRIED IT.
