Carolina Bays 31 Extension - Opposition to Route 17 Alternative

Why is this project so short sighted? The extension of SC31 should go further north and connect with 140, not US17. US17 between the SC state line and Bolivia is becoming a death route given all the residential developments and no turning lanes. The traffic volume on US17 from the SC state line to Boliva, NC currently resembles I-95. What will it be like if this project dumps even more traffic on US17? I drive US17 weekly and I-95 to DC at least 3 times monthly, currently the traffic volume is no different nor less dangerous between the two routes.

I would advocate extending NC Rte 140 to connect directly with Carolina Bays Parkway via a new road, inland and parallel to Rte 17. This would provide a seamless and quick link between Wilmington, NC and points south of Myrtle Beach, SC without disrupting any existing shoreline communities or businesses.

Alternative routes 1A or 4A are the only acceptable choices that would cost the least traffic, noise and neighborhood disruption to existing homes and businesses.

Strongly suggest the inland route. A study was done around 2007 with the recommendation of the inland route.

I do not support the conversion of US17 into an interstate highway or the construction of massive interstate interchanges on US 17.

I am vehemently opposed to Option 4 or any of the other options which brings nothing but destruction and traffic to the area of 904 & Rt 17. Instead of this absurd destructive proposal, Brunswick County needs a new Interstate Highway parallel to US 17 about 5 or so miles inland connecting SC 31 with I-140 and a few strategic interchanges. This will protect the current businesses and allow their growth and prosperity while at the same time present our county with the opportunity for decades of sustainable growth.

Residents of Ocean Ridge will be devastated if this route is taken the inland route seams to me the better choice with less harm to all but as we all know the government doesn't always make the right decisions

I oppose the conversion of US17 into an interstate highway or the construction of a massive interstate exchange onto US17. This will have a tremendous negative economic impact on the area, specifically the Ocean Ridge community. The 2008 financial economic downturn had a tremendous negative impact on property values in this community and the surrounding areas. They never fully recovered with values less than 50% if their original cost. This will further negatively impact this community and the surrounding areas. In addition the cost to acquire the condemned properties will probably much higher than an inland route.

Route 4A makes much more sense over Route 4. I am strongly opposed to route 4 as the solution. Why would you destroy existing homes, businesses, churches, etc.

I respectfully urge the NCDOT to select Route 4A for the Carolina Bays Parkway Extension. This route represents a responsible and community-centered solution. It would reduce the number of home and business relocations, preserving the integrity of our neighborhoods and minimizing disruption to families and local economies. Route 4A also avoids critical wetlands and habitats, reducing environmental disturbances, which is essential for protecting our region’s ecological health. With strong support from local municipalities like the Town of Sunset Beach, Route 4A clearly reflects a balanced approach to infrastructure development. I ask NCDOT to make the compassionate and common-sense choice—one that protects our homes, our environment and our future.

I cannot supportthe preferred route 4 that take out parts of Ocean Ridge Plantation, McDonalds, Circle K, , This option is devastatingly disruptive to the community. The logic for this route is just baffling. I don't support this proposed route!!!

This is the wrong decision. Project 5876 will negatively impact many businesses, Churches, locally owned homes, etc. Put the future parkway extension west of the 17 until you are past Shallote. This would then benefit everyone, because it is needed.

You need to be thinking long term and move this by pass inland so that eventually it could connect with I-140.

We support construction of a new road inland – parallel to US 17 with connections to US 17 with the most minimum disruption to existing infrastructure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Residents of Ocean Ridge moved here because of the beauty of the community & its golf courses. This proposal will destroy a part of Ocean Ridge that is essential to its continuing appeal. There are other options rather than destroying part of this beautiful community.

Build the route inland.

I do NOT support the preferred route 4 to take out parts of Ocean Ridge and the McDonald’s, Circle K, etc.
