Carolina Bays 31 Extension - Opposition to Route 17 Alternative

I live in Sedgefield. I won't even be able to sell my home until the state confiscates it.

Route 4 will cause terrible damage to homes and businesses on that stretch of highway 17. Route 4A seems to be the only logical route to extend Route 31.

strongly oppose option 4. The better option appears to be 4A

We, the undersigned, understand that 1 of the remaining proposed routes (Route 4) for the Carolina Bays Parkway extension (SC31) into North Carolina (NCDOT Project 5876) will convert portions of US 17 into an interstate highway, adding massive interchanges, cutting through our communities and destroying homes, local businesses, houses of worship, schools and wreaking havoc on our economy. Therefore, we do not support the conversion of US17 into an interstate highway or the construction of massive interstate interchanges on US 17. We support construction of a new road inland – parallel to US 17 with connections to US 17 with the most minimum disruption to existing infrastructure.

Why does our government continue to build roads to nowhere. We do need to extend 31 &9 but why do they continue to push everything toward the ocean. The communities need routes North & west not north & east.

I oppose the Route #4 plan for a future Carolina Bays Extension. It will NEGATIVELY IMPACT MANY HOMES, BUSINESSES, AND THE PEOPLE who live and work in these homes and businesses. This plan defies logic. Why would you execute a plan that has negative ramifications for the people and businesses in the community??? This investment is not justified given there are a number of alternatives and cost options.

Option 4A is the only logical option. Route 17 cannot be the only local road for evacuation. Option 4A should be extended to I 140, giving residents another way to evacuate. Why displace businesses & jobs, when there is vacant land inland.

I do not support option 4; 4A is a much better, less disruptive option.

#4 leaves only 1 emergency evacuation route - danger to the community; so many small businesses - a backbone of our area - will be lost.

I oppose the conversion of US 17 into an interstate highway or the construction of a massive interstate exchange onto US 17. The logic for this route is just baffling. In addition the cost to acquire the condemned properties will most likely be much higher than an inland route. It is also disturbing to realize that this project is primarily for the benefit of S C residents but the cost to N C would be nearly twice the cost that S C would have to expend. I respectfully urge the NCDOT to select Route 4A for the Carolina Bays Parkway Extension. This would also avoid disruption to critical wetlands and habitats, reducing environmental disturbances, which is essential for protecting our region’s ecological health. NCDOT should make the compassionate and common-sense choice. One that protects our homes, our environment and our future.

Oppose purpose route that joins hwy 17 at 904 and expands hwy into a major highway. This will disrupt local business, house of worship, farms and neighborhoods.

Rt 4 will negatively impact my home and community as I live on the front 9 of Lions Paw course in Ocean Ridge Plantation.

To wipe out half a community, businesses , churches and medical facilities is absolutely obscene. To believe that one man with the Stroke of a a pencil could achieve this destruction is intolerable.

I am against the termination of the Carolina Bays Parkway at Highways 904 & 17 and the destruction of many existing communities, homes and businesses this would cause.

The proposed Route #4 for the the future Carolina Bays extension is unthinkable Noy only does it impact home in Ocean Ridge but also many businesses currently along US 17. The extension would have less impact if done more inland and eventually connected to US I40 near Leland which provide a needed fast route to Myrtle Beach, SC.

I cannot support the route 4 approach due to the unnecessary impact to existing communities and businesses. It is a poor engineering approach to the problem. The 4A approach mimics the approach implemented by South Carolina, leaving 17 available for businesses, communities, easier access and an alternative route when needed. The route 4 approach will almost certainly take much longer to develop, require more off-ramps and significantly disrupt the critical 17 access route for years during construction. I strongly urge NCDOT to make the common sense choice of 4A that minimizes the impact to environment, TAX PAYERS, visitors, businesses and our homes.
