I seriously cannot believe the Lip Dub is gone and we actually pushed them toward a dance-athon instead, which honestly feels like such a weird win but I will absolutely take it. My brain is still spinning from all the meetings but I am so incredibly thankful that you all …
Dr. Winters just announced the cancelation of the Lip Dub. Instead, GHS will be having an optional dance-athon for charity during school hours. It is safe to say that our petition was pivotal in achieving this change.
I really thought Dr. Winters would just ignore us entirely but the shift toward a dance-athon is actually feeling like a win even if it is not exactly the lip dub we all wanted. My inbox is totally blowing up with people asking about the charity aspect so I guess I should probably look into which organizations are even being considered for the proceeds.

I really thought the administration was going to ignore us forever but look at where we are now. It feels surreal that we actually shifted the outcome here since I was so ready for just another generic rejection letter.

Finally some good news. The lip dub was gonna be so cringey anyway.

While I understand what is trying to be accomplished with the Lib Dub I think Cardinal Games would be a better way to have fun and bring together the school. With a Lib Dub student who are already unified, such as clubs and sports teams, are able to stand together. Students who do not participate in associations such as these are left out and feel much less, if any, inclination to participate in the Lib Dub. Additionally while some students may not enjoy taking part in a music video everyone can find something fun to do at Cardinal Games. Cardinal Games is a longstanding tradition where students across grades are able to gather together and have fun in a safe, engaging environment. As a senior I would much prefer having the memory of a fun Cardinal Games to having sat out of a Lib Dub.

The Student body is genuinely excited about Cardinal Games, and it as house Olympics has been a tenant of the GHS year for several years. In contrast, less than 4% of senior respondents to a poll expressed interest in a lip dub. At GHS, a school where events which genuinely create 'school spirit' are rare, it seems unwise to replace a beloved tradition with something which has failed to generate a positive response.
