Keep the kilts at Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts

The kilt is a staple piece of the cardinal Carter uniform my daughter loves it and it's truly beautiful recently I took a trip to Mcarthy and noticed the kilt was taken off the rack honestly this is unfair people with more inappropriate kilts have them so why shouldn't we this is honestly ridiculous and my younger daughter is coming this September and if things don't change both my girls will show up wearing the kilts and I'm prepared for you to send them home

I'm appalled that a school I cherished so much for embracing an inclusive environment has taken unilateral action on a matter without regulated consultation with students. My four years I remember hearing male teachers complain about how it made them feel "uncomfortable" and that the kilts sexualized young girls. How about we stop sexualizing them by forbidding the way girls dress because we care more about male sensitivity? How about we stick to just enforcing the length rather than succumbing to a one size fits all solution that the administration doesn't see is extremely sexist? C'mon Carter, you're better than this.

Please save the kilt. The pants don't fit everyone!

The first thing I notice when I recognize a student of CCAA in public is the kilt - it is a beautiful tartan, and it would be a shame to see CCAA in a uniform of white and navy like so many other schools. Instead of banning the kilt, why not allow any student to wear the school colours with pride? Cardinal Carter has always been an ambassador of acceptance and equality, and banning the kilt would be a huge retraction from that. Instead, lets foster respect and pride of the uniform, both in the students wearing the kilt and those around them.

I am a Carter alumni (graduate of 2011) and hearing about this Kilt ban has gotten me completely appalled.

Banning the kilt in this way that doesn't follow board policies is just simply unethical. Banning the kilt also solves no problems. The kilt elicits a sense of school pride - moreso than most of the other uniform pieces. When I first tried on the kilt in the McCarthy's changing room, I almost started crying because of the overwhelming amount of pride I felt, and as a bonus, I felt good in the kilt. The only other option the female students have in the winter time are the uniform pants, which aren't as flattering, don't fit everyone, need to be hemmed, and the women's pants do not have belt loops - making it even harder to wear comfortably or at all. If people are going to go out of their way to cause trouble to the girls wearing the kilts, shouldn't it be those who are causing trouble that get punished, and not the victim? If there is an issue, blame the perpetrator and not the girl or the kilt.

Kilts must stay!

Limiting the uniform will not be beneficial to anyone.

I believe the kilt should not be taken away from students. It is an important part of the history and culture of the school.

Pretty sad when the Board doesn't adhere to its own policy. Congratulations to the students for standing up for something you believe in and using the Board's own policy to argue your point.

kilts are $80. i spent $160 on just my kilts. why? because anyone who wants to wear a kilt, should be able to wear a kilt. simple as that. any other girl (or boy) who's spent money just as I did shouldn't let that money go to waste just because of a stupid ban.

Administration is not paying attention to the important issues. Stop deliberately targeting girls and try to be transparent in uniform policing. I didn't wear Macarthy-issued Carter pants my whole four years at Carter and was never written up for it, but my female classmates were continuously antagonized for their kilt lengths by teachers and administration. I stand with the girls of Cardinal Carter and condemn the administration for their actions.
