The kilt makes girls feel proud that they are a part of Cardinal Carter and taking it away is like taking their spirit away from the school.

If they are to take away the kilts, then it should be the students decision, and if someone breaks a rule then they should be reprimanded, not the whole school.

It's not the male students complaining though. Never at my 4 years at carter have I seen a male student complain about a kilt. This petition is about administration repremanding the kilt without following TCDSB rules. So please stop undermining the reason for this petition.

No guy at Carter is complaining about the kilt trust me. If you are gonna blame anyone it's the Carter administration, not the male student body, because we are on your side as well. Don't make this about males vs females, this is about the administration being unlawful and breaking TCDSB guidelines.

This is a straw man argument. Saying the injustice lies in the fact the guys aren't being punished as well undermines the purpose of this petition. The fact is, a minority group of girls do not wear the kilt properly and are ruining it's enjoyment for the majority of other female students. A better argument you could make then is this. If a portion of the male population began to sag their pants are pants going to be replaced with overalls for the uniform? Sounds ridiculous I know, but so is the attack on the Carter kilt, the administration should be focusing on more important school issues.

The boys have two options pants and shorts and are losing no options. The girls have one of their options removed and the boys have nothing removed-that is not fair. What about the financial cost that only the girls family will have to incur to purchase new pants-not fair. 95% of the girls at the school wear kilts and a decision to ban them is not affecting the entire population -just the girls and that is not fair.

As a parent of a current Carter student, I am extremely frustrated and disheartened at the prospect of banning the kilt. It is a violation of the parents and students rights, as the Carter community feels that the proper consultation and vote did not take place. I realize the importance of proper wear of the kilt, but the same can be said for all uniform pieces, whether worn by a male or female student. The objectification of the female students is upsetting because I feel that if the kilts are banned, then the pants and shorts become the focus. Proper and respectful uniform wear is a concern at all schools which adhere to a uniform policy. However, let the parents and students in on the decision making process and not make the decision arbitrarily. We should be teaching our youth the proper means to achieving ones goal and not arbitrary and prescriptive means.

If there are concerns about dress code and the way the kilt is worn, students should be asked to devise a student supported solution. A ban of the kilt is just another example of adults trying to impose what they perceive to be appropriately modest dress. What next a burka? what is the message here? I am a parent and I support the student's right to wear a kilt to school.
