Canceling ARGS Exams

You know who ELSE refused to cancel exams? Hitler. Not to compare the two or anything, I'm just giving an example.

Jesus, this generation of ARGS students are lazy. Stop whining. Man up. Take your damn exams. IF ANY SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS ARE READING THIS: PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL EXAMS!!

Let's get one thing straight sweetheart I appreciate everything args have given me . I'm challenged everyday at args to be made a better person .

First of all , ARGS alumni no disrespect or nothing but y'all need to be quiet about the stituation. Y'all have nothing to do with it , so hush Thanks : ) . Please don't say students aren't stressed , you don't know what goes on in their household or where every else they may be . Don't comment on someone's personal issues like you know what's going on with them . We aren't really concerned about the exams we just don't want to take two exams in the morning & then start something new. Y'all never took exams on a FULL DAY SCHEDULE so why should we ? I could care less about exams im fine with taking them . I feel as if we don't have a half of day the last two blocks should be study hall for students to refresh their minds for the next set of exams. If they don't cancel exams then oh well but if everyone ends up failing then what could they say . Which will make parents upset & complaining about their children's grades . P.S JoKia Ridley

I believe that you are taking my argument way out of context. I am not trying to make the struggle that people went through with Civil Rights seem small because I compare it to this situation. I was just using an example of other times when people spoke out or were ridiculed for standing for what they believe in. Now, I do believe our teachers love us and support us and I understand that there is difficulty with how much time we have to be in school. This is again a mere suggestion, the faculty l, alumni, or Schoolboard don't have to like it. I am even in favor if still taking our exams, I just think it is wrong to assume our students want the EASY way out or say things that make it seem like speaking out for change through this petition is wrong. We are at a school in which we are set to believe that we should express ourselves. I apologize if I used the wrong words or comparisons, but they were only examples. The ARGS faculty probably shouldn't be arguing with us anyway, they are the adults and should handle this more maturely. Thank you.

This petition makes the students look lazy. You've had an extra week to study for exams. I went to ARGS for the challenge, not to be coddled.

Alright, it seems to me that this entire petition discussion has been taken way too seriously by students, Alumni, and our teachers. I feel like there are good points and valuable points to the argument of having exams on both sides. First and foremost, I am going to go a bit against the grain here and say that maybe under the right conditions we should still take the exams. I am not entirely opposed to not taking exams, I just feel that the scheduling should have been handled better. I mean originally abln email was sent out on Thursday saying in the event we had school we would take 5th and 6th Block exams. Now not only was that last minute it would have been unfair given that we or most of the ARGS students were under the impression we had to take exams that we would normally have, 3rd and 4th Block exams. With all that being said, maybe we should take the exams, but it would be better if we had half days or maybe even make the exams optional. I am just saying that while yes we had a lot if time to prepare, the scheduling and other extracurricular activities may affect how students deal with the exams. I am NOT supporting getting rid if the exams which is what the petition honestly says, that is the title, to cancel args exams. Now, here is what I am embarrassed about. I am embarrassed that this argument between all sides has gone way too far. I am embarrassed that our teachers are embarassed of our students for having this petition and even going on to say things that make this petition seem wrong. I don't feel that teachers and the ARGS alumni should criticize the students because of the petition or even support if they don't want to. The ARGS students are making a suggestion, that is all they are doing. If you don't like it oh well, and I am NOT saying that to be mean but to say things that suggest we like to take the EASY way out and that suggest to me that you are disappointed and disgusted with this petition has gone way too far. I whole-heartedly agree that many aspects of this argument have gotten out of hand. What I believe needs to be communicated is that we are requesting help, not demanding change. And we are willing to take "no" for an answer. It's a request. Originally intended to be made diplomatically but now skewed into a digital riot. It embarrasses me that the ARGS student body is coming off as a bunch of spoiled brats that think they can have everything handed to them by complaining on the internet.

The call for cancelation is more of a high-ball in the negotiation. The title draws interest. The position of the students has evolved past that of the solo drafter of the petition. All we are looking for is an opportunity to ASK that the schedule be altered to better fit the needs of the ARGS student body. We disagree with the choice of the administration, and we are trying to ask for change as respectfully as possible. If they say "no," then we'll sigh, maybe grumble a bit, and take our exams according to the current schedule.

Not only is it what we are used to, but it's easier on everyone. I don't mind having an extra week in June if that's what it takes. I don't think we're even arguing for half days. We're just stating that we find fault in the exam schedule and would like something to be done about it. It's not demanding something specific, it's just asking that a certain part of the plan be altered to better fit a large amount of people. It's not Burger King, we know that we can't custom order our school year. We're just ASKING if administration would please consider an alteration.

I disagree greatly. I think ARGS students are better than this, and can handle exams under these conditions. I pretty much have the same opinion as all the other posts against this. This will affect our future, many teachers assigned exams that were more involved than just being done on exam day, we've had much more time to study, etc. I feel that having these exams is very important. The only thing I would change is to have the early dismissal as planned before, as I know many were going to use this time to prepare for the following exams. However, I still understand that we really don't really need the extra time, since we had a whole week off.

Even though I have signed to end the exams, I would like to clarify my intent to vote. I'm aware that no teacher is going to allow a student to miss an exam, and I agree that we should take them. I would just like to return to the normal exam schedule despite the snow days. I think that we should have half days, which isn't a huge change since originally we are suppose to have them. That is all I'm trying to change by signing this petition. - Adam
