Canceling the upcoming midterm exams at MLWGS would allow teachers to regain lost class time from the snow days thus far. Furthermore, Henrico County recently canceled their exams, and Hanover County is canceling their exams indefinitely. If MLWGS does not cancel its exams, this will cause an unfair penalty to our seniors in the college admissions process. Exams would create a chilling effect on grades in comparison to students at our home schools who will not have to bear the burden of exams. More winter weather is also forecasted for the days leading up to the exams. The presence of exams add an unnecessary variable which tends to break up the curriculum for a lot of teachers. Many teachers due to the pushed back timeline have scheduled tests and large projects the week of exams, so there is not adequate time for review. The students and families of Maggie Walker strongly believe that midterm exams should be canceled in favor of restored class time.

Taking exams would disadvantage Maggie Walker students. Henrico replaced exams with full school days, giving them more instructional time to prepare for APs. Additionally, exams are the last grades to be put in for seniors before transcripts are sent to colleges; exams rarely help grades, so counties that did not require their senior students to take exams will have an advantage over Maggie Walker seniors.

Exams are very stressful for all students, and usually only hurt a students semester grade. Most teachers have not yet taught all material on the exams, and this week we have a ridiculous number of tests/quizzes.

Well quite frankly, midterms defeat the purpose of learning, turning the first semester's material into "bathtub knowledge". Instead of building connections between the different things we learn in class, midterms force students to purely MEMORIZE and subsequently drain that knowledge to make room for the next day's tests. Without these exams, students are able to see the year as a whole rather than compartmentalizing everything into 1st+2nd semester b/c of the tantalizing promise of "it won't be on the final".

Many of my teachers, and many of my peers, are already burdened with the huge stress of being so behind in the curriculum because of the storm. Why burden them more? Honestly, Maggie Walker and Henrico need to get with the rest of the surrounding schools, like in Chesterfield and RPS, and start doing exams BEFORE winter break. No chance of snow postponement and stress, and a much more relaxing break!

I have so many tests and quizzes and projects prior to exams next week I barely have enough time to study!! Especially since we missed three days of learning due to the snow it pushed back all my classes.

I find myself busier than any other year with the college admissions process around this time and cannot exempt from any exams as the majority of mine are either AP or dual enrollment.

I honestly don't know the material because our teachers haven't been given the time to explain things.
